From our Lesson by Elder Bednar as taught by Kristen Jones
She taught us the meaning of a term, Behavioral Cusp, she learned in her job, then changed it to Spiritual Cusp and applied it to the restoration. Take a minute and think of the doors and opportunities the restoration has had in your life.
Behavioral Cusp: this is a behavior that when learned significantly impacts a person‘s life by opening up doors for new opportunities, environments and access to new reinforcers. It’s a behavior that acts as a gateway to new learning experiences and changes across multiple areas of life. It allows individuals access to new settings stimuli and social situations. Behavioral cusps are not minor skill improvements. They have far reaching consequences.
Examples: talking, walking, writing, reading
The Restoration is a spiritual cusp and is a principle of revealed knowledge that when learned and acted upon profoundly impacts a person‘s life by opening up doors for new opportunities, spiritual environments, and access to great blessings. It functions as a gateway to transformation across many areas of life, providing direction, guidance, and the means to receive spiritual gifts. Spiritual cusps are not minor insights or small steps of progress rather they carry far reaching significance with eternal perspective and consequence.
Examples: The Restoration: gaining a testimony of and having access to the Book of Mormon, following living Prophets, access to priesthood ordinances such as Baptism, being sealed etc.
